What is Reflexology?

Reflexology uses different massage and pressure techniques to relax and loosen muscles within the feet, hands and ears. Reflexology is based on energy zones in the body and the reflection of these zones as well as the organs of the body on the feet and the hands.

How does Reflexology work?

The feet and hands are viewed as maps or mirrors of the body and by putting pressure on and massaging specific points on the feet or hands it is said to have an effect on the corresponding area of the body.

Did you know that there are over 7000 nerve endings in each foot. When the reflexes and nerves are stimulated, the body’s natural electrical energy works along the nervous system to clear any blockages in the corresponding zones. A reflexology session seems to break up deposits (felt as a sandy or gritty area under the skin) that may interfere with this natural flow of the body’s energy.

Manipulating specific reflexes removes stress, activating a parasympathetic response in the body to enable the disharmonies to be released by a physiological change in the body. With stress removed and circulation improved, the body is allowed to return to a state of homeostasis Homeostasis is the “automatic” process that the body incorporates to bring it back to the “normal” state.

Reflexology may be performed on everyone, from the newborn to the elderly. It can be used as an excellent tune up for those who are on a healthy path and yet still feel that they are not quite in tune with their body’s needs. Reflexology can be used throughout pregnancy, or pre surgically and post surgically. In all cases, common sense should be the key before selecting this therapy.

What are the benefits of Reflexology?

*Relaxation is the key benefit with the removal of stress.
*Enhanced circulation will enable the body to heal.
*Assists the body to normalize metabolism naturally.
*Lymphatic drainage.
*Complements all other healing modalities
